Corporate Social Responsibility
Since its earliest days, Hayman has been linked to scientific exploration of the area’s marine environment. The preservation of the fragile ecosystem and the conservation of terrestrial species underpins many of One&Only Hayman Island’s operational and corporate philosophies.
Most notably, One&Only Hayman Island will continue to play an integral part in the ongoing success of a breeding program involving the endangered Proserpine Rock Wallaby, a species now thriving on the island.
One&Only Hayman Island will also continue to support research efforts aimed at protecting the fragile coral ecosystem. Guests are encouraged to donate a nominal amount for each night of their stay to the ZooX Fund. An initiative of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, ZooX is dedicated to raising funds for reef research and helping preserve the Great Barrier Reef for generations to come.
Furthermore, operating within a marine protected area means that the resort has to comply with conditions of permitting schemes, which are administered by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. The island maintains close working relationships with these organisations which share responsibility for the area’s care.
In addition, the resort operates according to internationally accepted standards of Quality, Safety and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 9001, 1800 and 14001).
