The plant life on Hayman is nearly as entrancing as its animal life. During this time, Heliconia, Ixora, Cordylines, and Crotons offer striking colourful flower and foliage. These striking plants thrive in Hayman’s beautiful tropical weather.
The Heliconia is a bright, colourful tropical plant which is around 15-300cm in length. The flowers are produced on long upright or drooping panicles, which are brightly coloured, usually orange and reds, and have the texture known as a waxy bract.
In other parts of the world, the Ixora produces large clusters of tiny red and orange flowers in summer, however, the species blooms all year round due to the tropical weather on Hayman. The leaves are a consistent leathery texture ranging from 3-6 inches in length.
Cordylines are a very tough plant. They have purple, green leaves and are very durable. They provide colour year round and have a lovely lush foliage.
Crotons can reach a height of 1.2m in the larger plants, and can also be spotted as smaller shrubs located around the island. These plants are perfectly suited to Hayman as they enjoy the warm climate and areas exposed to the sunlight. The plants feature large leaves of green, yellow and red.
